Obituary for George Washington Ward, Sr.

On April 27, 1956, the Lord sent an angel to Willie T. Ward Sr. and Maud Ree Ashley Ward. They were blessed with an adorable baby boy named George Washington Ward. This great celebration of new life took place in Shreveport, Louisiana.
George grew up in Bienville/Webster Parish(es). He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the family church, Carter Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Roosevelt Courtney, Sr. George attended Ringgold High School in Ringgold, LA. Having grown up with a brother and cousins who played on the family baseball field and basketball court, George was fond of basketball, baseball and art. After graduating from high school, he attended Shreveport Commercial College and received a Graphic Art Design Certification. George was an accomplished artist and freelanced for many years.
In the late 70’s, he moved to Dallas, TX and began a career in art advertising with Taylor Publishing Company. George also worked for JC Penny as a commercial artist. He met and married Lillie Davis in 1981. Together, they had three children – Kristy, George, Jr. and Iesha. George later moved to New Orleans, LA and was employed with Regional Transit Authority (RTA) for 17 years. George moved back to Dallas, TX in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans, he gained employment with the Fort Worth Transit Authority. One year later, he was offered a more promising position with the Dallas Area Transit Authority (DART) and worked there for 13 years until God called him home.
On September 12, 2019, after many years of serving the Lord, George was called home by God. His work was completed here on earth. George has 5 siblings: 1 brother, Willie T.(Sheryl) Ward and 4 sisters, Ola Ree (Dan) Barrett, Clara Mae, (Ellis) Scott, Brenda Joyce Davis and Becky Ann (Kendell) Murray.
